On April 7, 2011, the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) claimed that an industrial site located near the city of Karaj called "TABA" (a Persian abbreviation for “Towlid Abzar Boreshi Iran” meaning “Iran Cutting Tools Manufacturing”) was designed to secretly produce centrifuge components for uranium enrichment. The NCRI further alleged that, over the course of four and a half years, the TABA site had produced enough composite tubes, molecular pumps, and bellows, among other items, for more than 100,000 IR-1-type gas centrifuges, as well as for more advanced centrifuges.
Two days later, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi confirmed that the TABA site was being used to manufacture centrifuge parts, but refuted any allegations of concealment. Iran has since denied the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) access to the site.
